A plain-English check for private parking tickets in England, Scotland and Wales
See if you might have grounds to appeal
How this works
Answer a few questions about your private parking charge. Nothing leaves your device.
We’ll summarise your situation, suggest next steps, then show matching grounds from the Code’s Appeals Charter (section 19), in plain English.
Some situations mean the charge should be cancelled; others a £20 reduced charge; others are about timing or process.
You can optionally draft an appeal letter to copy or print, then fill in.
The Code was issued on 20 October 2026 and “will come into force at the end of the period of 21 days beginning with the day on which it is issued” (Code introduction). Confirm the in-force date on GOV.UK.
A few questions
This tool isn’t for council or police PCNs.
The Private Parking Code of Practice doesn’t cover on-street parking on public highways, or parking places run by local authorities (Code, section 1 — Scope). Use the appeals process printed on the PCN instead.
The Code may not apply to this ticket date.
If the charge was issued before the Code was in force, the Appeals Charter categories on this page may not bind the operator for that charge. Still check the notice and the operator’s own appeals process. Confirm the in-force date on the Code page.
